Call For Papers Mid-America Alliance for African Studies University of Tulsa, Oklahoma 9-10 October, 2009 Theme: "Africa and the Environment The Mid-America Alliance for African Studies has chosen ÒAfrica and the EnvironmentÓ as its main theme for its 2009 conference. The University of Tulsa has graciously agreed to host the conference on October 9 and 10, 2009; ÊTulsa Community College is co-sponsoring the meeting. Scholars and practitioners from all disciplines are invited to share their ideas and projects related to "Africa and the Environment" in a collegial setting. MAAAS is a collegial organization of scholars seeking to promote research on Africa. It aims to bring together Africanists from throughout the Great Plains region, although participants have come from all over the United States as well as from African countries. We particularly encourage graduate students to participate in our conference. The Ken Lohrentz Prize is given to the best paper presented by a graduate student at the conference. Possible topics include the following list, although other topics are certainly welcomed:
Please make all checks payable to MAAAS. Please send an abstract of no more than 250 words for any presentation. Include your name, title, and institution information on the abstract. We will accept abstracts until AUGUST 15, 2009. Please remember presenters must pay the conference registration fee.
