Site Recording

MAS members can also participate in the preservation of sites program by recording sites with the Missouri State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO).

One of the functions of the SHPO is to assign numbers to all prehistoric and historic sites reported in Missouri. Files are maintained and are available on a controlled basis for persons, organizations, or companies involved in research and cultural resource management.

Nonmembers of the Society also are encouraged to record archaeological sites.
