MAS members can participate in the preservation of Missouri archaeology by recording sites with the State Historic Preservation Office.
One of the functions of the SHPO is to assign numbers to all prehistoric and historic sites reported in Missouri. Files are maintained and are available on a controlled basis for individuals, organizations, or companies involved in research and cultural resource management. Site information is confidential and does not give the government control over the site or associated property.
We often hear that the site registration process with MoDNR/SHPO is too complicated. The MAS office will be happy to assist in the completion of site forms.
Non-Society members are also encouraged to record archaeological sites.
