Meet our At-Risk Youth

Who would you like to meet? While the names are fictitious,
the stories are real and were written by some of the youth in our group homes.

Respect (definition) The special esteem or consideration in which one holds another person or thing.

Respect to me is being nice to someone because they have live or are living and for the simple fact all livings deserve respect.  Respect to me should be earned in order to get a lot but every one has and deserves some respect to some extent.

But the major point is you get respect and how much you want by how you act towards others.  You show respect you get the same in return.  You show a lot of respect you get a lot in return.  Respect is like trust every starts off with some and it’s up to them to either keep it loose it or gain more of it.

You keep respect by being consistent at the level you are at.  Find if you are consistent each day you can gain more respect because others will believe you deserve respect because you are consistently respectful.  The benefits of respect are simple.

One major benefit of respect is knowledge.  If you do something and you get respect in return and therefore you gain knowledge of how to earn respect.  Respect is learned weather it’s a coincidence you find out how to get respect or someone tells or shows you how to.

The benefits of self respect are high self esteem and more will power.  Some benefits of respect from others are, trust, being a good leader, others show interest and, popularity.

Hi my name is Van.  I have been here at CLC (Community Learning Center) for one month and eight days.  The youth at CLC went to the Dys (Division of Youth Services) olimpics.  We all won five meadoles.  One we won a third place meadole over all.  A second place meadole for the ball toes.  First place for the troliees.

Bobbie

I got here in April and didn’t know what CLC (Community Learning Center) was going to be like I thought we would come and be here till they thought we were better and able to back into the community.

I found out we had a thing called a passport.  I was a little upset when I found out that we had to complete it and work with others well.  So far I have been here almost 2 months and I’m almost on my 2nd page.

I’m excited that I’ve finaly working the passport.  If I would have started it when I first got here I could have been on my 3rd page but at least I started and I’m making progress.  My mom said she see’s a change in my attitude and she knows the program will help me.

My life as a child has been Hell.  My brother died 2 years ago when I was 13 and he was 12.  Just prior to that my parents got a divorce seven months before after being married for 18 years.  Ive had 2 admissions to Lakeland and to green county juvenile detention 1 at CTC and 1 here at clc (Community Learning Center) and this program has helped me deal with my real problems and not dance around them like the other facilities.

One other thing the excceleent staff and dys phacilitators have done for me is set up some dentist appointments and Dr. James B. Stewart helped save my teeth and it didn’t hurt one bit he let me watch titanic in his office while being worked on and most important of all he called to check up on me on his own time. Thanx a lot guys of D.y.s. (Division of Youth Services).

Mike
