Working Locally for Universal Benefits
The Springfield Chapter of the United Nations Association of the U.S.A. (UNA-USA) dates back to the early 1950s. The parent organizations, the United Nations Association of the United States of America, is the country's largest grassroots foreign policy organization and the leading center of policy research on the United Nations. It is a nonprofit, nonpartisan group designed to educate Americans of every age about critical issues tackled by the U.N.

With a growing membership of 25,000 and more than 100 affiliated organizations, the national chapter of the UNA-USA sponsors programs and events designed to encourage participation in global issues. The Springfield UNA-USA has been instrumental in developing and supporting a variety of these programs, including Model United Nations programs for high school and college students, designed to enhance understanding about the United Nations and its mission.
The local chapter evolved from the International club, a multi-racial, multi-ethnic group. Mrs. Margaret Heimberger, spouse of Springfield physician Dr. Heimberger, founded the local chapter, following the couple's return from a missionary tour in China.
